Party Dress

I bought a dress that I pinned :)
We went out for Hubs work Christmas party. The party was at the Victoria Conference Centre and they did a wonderful job with the decorations and food.
For some reason we didn't take a single picture once we left the hotel room, so you'll have to make do with the only picture I have.
I wish you could see my red shoes.

Chocolate Covered Pretzels

Because I'm in a battle with food allergies, I made these with gluten free pretzels from Glutino and dairy free chocolate from Denman Island Chocolate.

The original pin called for 1 12oz package of chocolate chips. I used 2 Espresso Chunk bars. I had a BIG bag of pretzels and I just threw a couple of handfuls on the baking sheet :)

I tossed the pretzels into the melted chocolate in the measuring cup. The poured them out on a wax paper covered baking sheet.
Stuck the tray in the fridge for 10 minutes to speed up the hardening of the chocolate.
YUM! Up next...cinnamon sugar pretzels.

Candle Stamping!!!

Do you ever find a craft that you want so badly to work? This idea for candle stamping one of those for me. I read the back of so many stamps at Michael's but decided to use picture stamps instead. I had a 1/2 off coupon so I splurged on a set of rubber stamps featuring birds :) I got the stamp pad at the same time because I liked the colour and it was $1.50
I got small votive candles for my first try (vanilla scented from Walmart)

I put the stamp on the desk and inked the top surface. I rolled the candle over the stamp. Apologies for the scarred desk. This is also where I paint my nails.

I scored on my very first try
Can't wait to get bigger candles and try more colours!

Shower Gel Bath Paint

*Shower gel works better than bubble bath*
The kids LOVED this! I was a super hero the night I made bath paint and it's so, so easy.

I made half the recipe in one big bowl then separated it for 2 different colours.
I know it looks like a scary mess to clean up but it's only shower gel! I used the removable shower head and it rinsed right off.

Lemon Bars

A friend argued that the recipe isn't actually 2 ingredients, but there are only 2 things you need to make these super yummy lemon bars.
I couldn't find a can of lemon pie filling so I used the Jell-o stuff that you make on the stove. Still super easy.
Once the filling is made, mix in a box of Angel Food cake mix and pour it into a pan. I used a rectangular cake pan.

It looks really, really weird in the pan. Bake and cool. Sprinkle with icing sugar. Done!

My kids loved them too.

Crochet Bracelet

Luckily for me this bracelet is made using the only crochet stitch I know how to do :) I have tons of buttons but chose all white/light for this one.
I love it and the wool is comforting during the yucky weather.
I'm working on another one using a light grey cotton yarn. I'll post pics as soon as it's done.

DIY Wrap Bracelet

This was so easy, I did it in about half an hour. The only small issue I have is that the bracelet twists. But that's a personal irritation, nothing major LOL
I have enough cord and chain left over to make another bracelet, I just have to decide what colour thread to use...

More Sparkle Tips!

I love this look but last time I tried it, the polish was too light. Time for new colours! I used a double coat of China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise for the base. I used Sinful Colors Nail Junkie for the sparkle. Finish with a clear top coat and voila!

This time I used a triangle make up sponge to apply the sparkle. Much easier than the eyeshadow applicator.

Polka Dot Mani

Cute idea! I tried this Polka Dot idea out on myself first, then I did my daughters friends nails because they were going to the Selena Gomez concert.
I used 2 coats of Avon Luxe Lavendar for the base and Sally Girl Your Majesty for the dots.

I think I'm going to use my Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in Silver to add a line under the dots because it feels...unfinished? I don't know. If I do, I'll add a pic.

OMG! Mongolian Beef

This recipe for Mongolian Beef is so f%cking good.

Like I want to make Mongolian chicken, prawns, and pork - good.
The recipe is easy, the ingredients are fresh and it's so, so good. I served the beef over rice and had a green salad for something green.

Sparkle Tips

As I've said before, I love doing my nails. What could be easier than creating sparkling tips? ya know, besides painting my right hand.

I used a double coat of OPI Catch The Garter and used a single application of OPI Pink Before You Leap, all topped with a quick drying, clear top coat. Super cute and super easy.

*I apologize for the picture quality. The lighting is bad and the polish colours are light.*

Beaded Bracelet

Braid some beads on to silky thread to make a bracelet. Seems easy enough, and it is! It takes some patience because you have to hold the beads in place while continuing the braid and the beads can slip out of place if the braid isn't tight enough. But it's totally doable and makes a neat accessory!

Easy Ribbon Headband

This is so basic and easy I can't believe I didn't think of it before. Ribbon Headband. Genius!
I chose Goody Ouchless Hair Elastics, we use them in our house anyway, and picked one of my favourite ribbons.

I measured the ribbon around my head and took off 1" for the elastics. Because the ribbon I chose it satiny I didn't want it to be too tight, or it would slip right off. I tied 2 elastics together, and using a few quick stitches, attached the ribbon.

It really is that easy. Maybe that's why I was successful?

Nail Stamping

I love nails. I secretly wish I was a nail tech so I could do nails all day. But I'm not so I have to stick to doing my own nails.
I found this pin with a tutorial on how to stamp nails. Pretty cool, very pretty, basic premise. The only problem is I don't have all the fancy tools and when I decided to try this project, I was kind of stuck. I started looking through my mountains of craft stuff and came across my rubber Christmas stamps...

I started with 2 coats of Avon Gun Metal (one of my favourite colours BTW)

Then I painted Avon Vintage Blue onto the stamp. Keep in mind all I have are Christmas theme stamps. I used the holly one because I thought the leaves might look cool.

Can you believe it didn't look as good as the professional?? LOL I did both thumbs. The design is kind of growing on me, but it's certainly not as cool as the nails in the Pin.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to make a trip to Sally Beauty Supply and find some neat tools and polish.

Jewellery Stand

Last night I attempted this jewellery stand. I went cheap and bought the supplies I needed from the Dollar Giant. They didn't have any candle holders, I got a vase and glass stones to put inside.
As much as I like jalapeno's, I wanted to cover the plates and make them more girly. I traced the smaller plate on a sheet of scrapbooking paper and used spray adhesive to attach it to the plate.

Using my trusty hot glue gun, I secured some ribbon around the edge of both plates. I wasn't interested in trying to cover it with paper.

After I dumped the glass stones in the vase (I didn't buy enough to fill it, but whatever), I used the hot glue gun to add a bead of glue around the top of the vase and secured it to the paper side of the smaller plate.

I added a bunch more hot glue on the bottom of the vase, and pressed it onto the larger plate.

Cute, right? I thought so too, until I tried to move it. The hot glue wasn't strong enough to adhere the vase to the plate. The top is fine because of the scrapbook paper, the the bottom has no texture to help the glue.
I'm sure Hubby has some automotive adhesive that I can use. Off to search the garage...

Welcome!

By now we've all heard of Pinterest. If you haven't heard of it, it's time to come out from the rock you have been living under.
Pinterest is a virtual pin board (read: ginormous time suck) full of beautiful things, all nicely organized.

Now, I can admit I am a bit of a geek. I like crafts. I like new recipes. I like looking at pretty things. I also like to TRY new things. So that's what this blog will be about. Trying the new projects I find on Pinterest.
